Dear guests of La Dolce Vita,
Would you like to visit Bari during your stay in Matera, but it’s Sunday and you’re not sure how to get there? Don’t worry! We’ve prepared this handy guide just for you.
How does transportation work on Sundays?
On Sundays, the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL) suspends train service between Matera and Bari, but provides a convenient replacement bus service instead. To help you plan your day trip, we’ve gathered all the necessary information about the schedules.

Practical Travel Tips
- Always check the schedule: This timetable is updated as of March 3, 2025, but schedules may change. We recommend checking the official FAL website before departing.
- Arrive early: We suggest arriving at the station at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
- Allow for traffic: Arrival times are estimates and may vary depending on traffic conditions, especially during peak hours.
- August notice: During August, some services may be cancelled. In this case, we’ll check availability for you when you book.
- Intermediate stops: The buses make several stops along the way. If you wish to get off at a specific location, just ask the driver.
- Purchase tickets: You can buy tickets directly at Matera Centrale station or at authorized resellers throughout the city. We’re happy to direct you to the nearest ticket vendor.
Enjoy Bari!
Bari is a wonderful city that absolutely deserves a visit! The historic center (Bari Vecchia), St. Nicholas Basilica, the seafront promenade, and delicious local specialties will captivate you. In about an hour and a half, you’ll be in Puglia’s capital, ready for a new adventure.
For English-speaking visitors, Bari offers a perfect blend of authentic Italian culture with fewer tourists than some of Italy’s more famous destinations. You’ll find a genuine Italian experience with excellent seafood restaurants, vibrant street life, and beautiful architecture without the crowds of Rome or Florence.
If you have any questions or need help organizing your excursion to Bari, don’t hesitate to ask! At La Dolce Vita reception, we’re always happy to help make your stay unforgettable.
Safe travels!
